Ashwood Southeastern Railroad

The Ashwood Southeastern Railroad (reporting mark ASER) is a major railroad in New Territories. They are estimated to be the second largest railroad in terms of mileage, just behind the Pine Island & Bridgewater Railway. They are owned by the parent company New Territories Rail Link.
History[edit | edit source]
The ASER was initially started in 1898 by some of the early United States settlers as the Ashwood Transport Company. The original line ran from Ashwood to the Pine River to transport goods to Ashwood. Nothing of the line other than the part in Ashwood remains to this day, being abandoned and ripped out in 1920.
East Line[edit | edit source]
In 1916, work had begun on two new lines, one heading east out of Ashwood and one heading south. The East Line was completed in 1923, after several construction problems in the Sierra Vista mountains and Silver Ridge mountain range. The line was built to the brand new settlement of Quincy, which would later grow to be one of the biggest cities in New Territories. The line is still in active use today as the Sierra and Silver Ridge Subdivisions.
South Line[edit | edit source]
Almost immediately after work had begun on the East Line, work on the South Line had also begun. The line was initially completed in 1919, connecting Ashwood to what would become Ashwood's military base, later on Ashwood's Airport and the future CoalPort. The line later was expanded in the late 20's all the way down to what's now known as Edison. After this line was completed, the company was renamed to Ashwood & Southeastern. The South Line is still mostly in use today as the Ashwood Terminal and CoalPort Subdivisions, although parts of it had to be rebuilt to accommodate the Ashwood Airport.
Merger with Pine Island & Bridgewater Railway[edit | edit source]
In 1997, both the Ashwood & Southeastern and the Pine Island & Bridgewater Railway announced their plans to merge. The merger took place in 1999 with the new company taking the Ashwood & Southeastern name (albeit dropping the "&" in the name). The company now owned over a hundred rail miles of track throughout New Territories.
Change to New Territories Rail Link and separation from PIBR[edit | edit source]
In 2024, Ashwood Southeastern announced that the company would be renamed to New Territories Rail Link, likely to avoid confusion from some customers since the railroad operated all over New Territories. In early 2025, it was announced that New Territories Rail Link would be spinning off the company back into Ashwood Southeastern and Pine Island & Bridgewater alongside leasing the Bridgewater Red Mesa Railroad. The major change took place a couple weeks later.
