Brook is a small suburban town located in the Ashwood-Franconia area of Copper Mountain Riding. The town population was 192 in 2020. == History == Brook was founded on March 24th, 1919 by Samuel Brook Evans, a resident and local railroad worker in the nearby colony of Ashwood. The Ashwood & Southeastern Railroad's East Line had been completed through the future townsite a couple years prior. The ASER would soon build a depot in what was at the time, center of town. A post office was established in the new town in June 1919. Construction on other buildings along Main Street would be completed by 1920. A proper road connecting to Ashwood would be built by 1922, connecting right to Main Street. The road would continue past Brook, but didn't make it too far due to the complicated terrain of the Sierra Mountain range. Eventually, the challenges were overcome and the road, being future NT 20, would be built eventually to the town of Sterry and beyond. By 1953, traffic along Main Street was getting really congested as the highway, which was recently designated as NT 20, became the main road between Ashwood and Quincy. In 1962, all of the mostly abandoned or vacant buildings on the north side of Main Street were demolished to make way for a town bypass, which NT 20 would be rerouted through. Near the now abandoned ASER depot is the exit and intersection for the west side of Brook. By the 70's, Brook was already starting to be landlocked by Ashwood development on the west side. The New Territories University Ashwood campus is not too far away. The Copper Mountain Transit Agency'<nowiki/>s subway was built out to Brook in 1975. In the late 2000's, the first new housing development in a long time, Vista Valley, was started. It was completed in 2011. In 2017, the Ashwood Southeastern Railroad launched their new East Regional passenger service, along with restoring the old depot. == Transportation == === Highways === * NT 20 passes right through Brook. Originally running through Main Street, 20 now passes on a designated right-of-way on the north side of Main Street. NT 20 connects Brook to Ashwood, Franconia, Sterry and Quincy. * NT 30 technically doesn't connect to Brook, but the northern end of it is not that far away, just west of town. 30 connects to downtown Ashwood and provides a shortcut to Franconia from NT 20. === Bus === CMTA provides bus service to Brook from Ashwood. Routes 102, 104, and 400 serve Brook. === Rail === * CMTA's Blue Line connects Brook to Ashwood Union Station as well as Sterry Valley, Sterry and Deadwood. * ASER's East Regional (Ashwood - Quincy) and East Local Regional (Ashwood - Deadwood) stop in Brook at the old depot on Vista Road. East Local Regional service is provided every hour in each direction and East Regional service is provided twice a day in each direction. The East Regional Express passes through Brook, but doesn't make any scheduled stops.
